A Solution for Drooping Earrings

Last year I was at the pool wearing the pretty Amethyst stud earrings I received from my sister for being a bridesmaid in her wedding. I’m not sure where or when it happened, but one of them fell out. I called the pool house, checked the grass and the pool, and went over my car with a fine-toothed comb. It was lost forever and I was incredibly sad.

I received these really pretty earrings around Christmastime last year. They are leverbacks so I knew that they would be more secure / less likely to be lost to oblivion. They are so pretty in the box. Once I put them in my ears? Not so much. I don’t know if it is the weight of the earring, the design of the metal or the shape of my ear, but these earrings will not sit straight for me. If you look at the picture below, you can see what happens when I place them in the holder. The earring on the right droops and the pretty, sparkly stone faces the ground instead of outward. I want them to hang like the left side, but can’t sit there all day with my finger behind my ears to make them look pretty. No matter how much adjusting I did, they inevitable ended up shining at the floor.

I ended up ordering this product: Rubber Flatback Earring Back/Stoppers for about $4.50. They are basically small, clear, rubber earring backs that you slide on to the metal to secure your earrings. They are actually designed to help keep wire earrings from falling out, but I thought I might be able to slide the clear plastic stopper on to the top of the leverback before closing the lever and give my earrings a little more support to sit where they are supposed to. It was a pretty small cost to try getting them to work. It came with 200 pieces in the pack.
It’s been 5 days and I have not had to adjust my earrings once. I have slept, showered, and lived in them and, happily, they are still sitting correctly and pretty. The rubber has gotten slightly discolored and I don’t think that they would necessarily be reusable if you removed and replaced the same one several times, but I have 198 more backs to replace them with. 🙂 Make sure that if you try this that your leverback completely closes metal-on-metal to ensure your earring is on safely.

What do you think? How do you keep earrings from drooping? Is this something you have a problem with? Is this a solution you would try?
